  • Are the LARA trails plowed in the winter?
    LARA contracts to have approximately 1.5 miles of the trail along Foreman St., Gee Drive and Alden Nash Rd (south of Gee Dr.) plowed, which includes the section funded by the State of Michigan Safe Routes program.
  • How can I volunteer?
    All volunteers are welcome! Please visit our GET INVOLVED page.
  • Who do we contact if we see maintenance issues on the trail?
    Please contact us HERE if you see anything of concern along the LARA trail.

  • Are there other nearby trails in the Lowell Area, but not connected to the LARA trails?
    Bradford Dickinson White Nature Preserve (3 miles south of Lowell) Ionia State Recreation Area (12 miles east of Lowell)

  • How can I donate?
    You can send us a check or make your donation through PayPal by clicking on the DONATION button
  • Who maintains the LARA trails?
    The trails in the LARA system are maintained by LARA with funding assistance from the member communities and volunteers.
  • Are there future trail extensions planned?
    Yes! Please see the plans for the next Phase of LARA trails HERE
  • How long are the existing trails?
    The total length of the existing trails in the LARA system is 3.2 miles.
  • How were (are) the trails paid for?
    There are no specific millages in the member communities assigned to the LARA trail system. The funds required to plan, design and build the LARA trails have come from through a generous combination of state and local grants, community foundations and private donations as well as contributions from the member communities.   • Are dogs allowed on the LARA Trails?
    Yes! Dogs are welcome, but they must be leashed and we ask that you PLEASE clean up after your pet using your own bag or one provided from dispensers on the trail.
  • Is the LARA Trail paved and accessible?
    All trails in the LARA system are 10 ft. wide and paved with asphalt except for boardwalks which are timber surfaces. The trails are constructed within the standards allowed by A.D.A.

LARA Board meetings are scheduled for the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm. We meet at the Vergennes Township Hall 69 Lincoln Lake Avenue NE, Lowell, MI 49331
